DeepSeek Seeks $300M at $10B Valuation as OpenAI, Anthropic Valuations Spark Market Debate

Gate News message, April 17 — According to The Information, DeepSeek is in talks to raise at least $300 million at a valuation of $10 billion, a fraction of leading U.S. AI companies: OpenAI commands $852 billion, while Anthropic is valued at up to $800 billion. The valuation gap has sparked investor debate over whether DeepSeek represents a bargain or if American AI firms are overpriced. DeepSeek's R1 model, launched in January 2025, trained for approximately $5.6 million—a fraction of the hundreds of millions typically spent by U.S. laboratories—triggered a market shock that erased nearly $1 trillion in U.S. equity value in a single day, with Nvidia losing close to $600 billion in market capitalization. Since then, performance rankings between U.S. and Chinese models have traded the top position multiple times; as of March 2026, Anthropic's leading model holds just a 2.7% performance advantage, according to Stanford University's 2026 AI Index. On the revenue front, OpenAI reported an annualized run rate of $25 billion in February, while Anthropic surged from $9 billion at end-2025 to $30 billion by March, driven primarily by Claude Code demand. In Q1 2026, just four deals—OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, and Waymo—accounted for 63% of total capital raised globally. SpaceX-xAI is targeting an IPO valuation potentially exceeding $1.75 trillion, potentially the largest IPO in market history. Some investors have raised concerns about OpenAI's current valuation, with one backer telling the Financial Times that justifying the $852 billion price requires assuming an IPO valuation of $1.2 trillion or more. The extreme valuation gap between DeepSeek and American AI leaders is now raising questions about whether speculative appetite, rather than revenue-generating capability, is driving market prices.

Global Robotaxi Market Projected to Reach $168B by 2035, Driven by US and China

Gate News message, April 16 — According to Counterpoint Research, the global robotaxi market could reach $168 billion by 2035, with 3.6 million vehicles in service. The forecast is underpinned by advances in autonomous driving AI, increased investment, and expanding fleet deployments. The US and China will lead the market. In the US, Waymo and Tesla are key operators, while China's market includes Baidu's Apollo Go, WeRide, Pony.ai, and DiDi, which is testing Level 4 autonomous vehicles in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing. Hardware cost reductions are accelerating profitability. Solid-state LiDAR sensors fell from approximately $12,000 per unit in 2022 to under $800 by 2025, improving unit economics. Leading robotaxi operators are expected to reach per-ride break-even in 2027-2028, with Waymo reporting positive contribution margins in its Phoenix service in 2025.

OpenAI Shifts ChatGPT Ad Model to CPC, Targeting $2.4-2.5B Ad Revenue in 2026

Gate News message, April 16 — OpenAI is transitioning ChatGPT's advertising model from cost-per-impression (CPM) to cost-per-click (CPC), set to be applied to advertisers within days, according to Disinformation. The shift comes as the company faces mounting pressure from a projected $14 billion loss this year, driven by surging computing costs despite ChatGPT's weekly active users approaching 900 million. The move reflects structural challenges with OpenAI's subscription model. While 900 million users engage with ChatGPT weekly, only 5% pay for premium tiers, leaving most users generating costs without revenue. CEO Sam Altman previously noted that even $200-per-month subscribers can incur losses due to high inference costs. OpenAI has set 2026 ad revenue targets of $2.4-2.5 billion, with plans to scale to $11 billion by 2027. OpenAI is also testing action-based ad formats and requiring advertisers to commit $30,000-50,000 monthly spend. The platform separates ads from ChatGPT responses to preserve user trust. Paid tiers (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise) remain ad-free, while Free and ChatGPT Go users see advertisements. Industry analysts view the CPC adoption as a direct challenge to Google and Meta's search and performance ad markets, as AI-generated answers with contextual commercial links may offer higher conversion efficiency than traditional keyword advertising.

Hannam University Breaks Ground on Central Korea's Largest Private GPU Data Center

Gate News message, April 16 — Hannam University held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 16 for a major GPU data center project in Daejeon, South Korea's central region. The facility will accommodate over 62,500 Blackwell-class GPUs, with total facility costs of approximately 2.5 trillion Korean won ($1.9 billion). Supermicro, an Nvidia GPU supplier, will handle GPU procurement for the project. The initiative involves Supermicro, BKB Energy, KT, and TurboScale, which will manage GPU supply and installation of cooling systems. The parties have signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) to ensure GPU supply whenever needed. Lee Jun-won, vice chair of Hannam University's AI Strategy Committee, stated that the facility can eventually accommodate approximately 320,000 GPUs. Initially, 62,500 Blackwell-class units will be deployed, with a contractual arrangement to upgrade to Vera Rubin-class and higher-tier processors as desired. The project is funded entirely through private capital, with investment from U.S., Canadian, and French sources, as well as domestic investors including Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance, Woori Investment & Securities, and BKB Energy. Approximately 80% of GPUs will use liquid cooling for thermal management. Water supply will be handled by the Korea Water Resources Corporation, while Korea Electric Power Corporation will initially provide 40MW of electricity, with plans to secure an additional 100MW through energy storage systems (ESS). Hannam University plans to complete building design this year and begin full construction next year.

#GatePreIPOs首发SpaceX For individuals, SpaceX is indeed an opportunity, but it is an opportunity with high expectations, high risks, and high barriers, mainly depending on which angle you want to participate from (investment, career, industry, learning). 1. Why is it considered an opportunity (business and technological level) - Industry monopoly + stable cash flow - Falcon 9 accounts for 88% of global orbital insertion quality, over 70% of commercial launches - Reusable rockets reduce costs to 1/5 to 1/10 of traditional methods - Starlink users near 10 million, EBITDA about $8 billion in 2025, profit margin 54% - Dual narrative of space economy + AI - Starship: target cost reduced to $200/kg, supporting lunar/moon missions - Space data centers: orbital cooling + solar energy, computing costs possibly 1/10 of ground-based - Merging into xAI, telling a new story of “space + AI” - IPO window clear (June 2026) - Valuation between $1.25 trillion and $1.75 trillion, raising about $75 billion - Stock ticker SPX (Nasdaq) 2. Three opportunities for ordinary people to participate (investment) 1. Directly buy US stocks (after IPO) - Open a US stock account → currency exchange (annual limit of $50k per person) → buy after listing - Advantages: most direct, low threshold - Risks: valuation already extremely high (P/S ratio ~100), very volatile 2. IPO subscription (difficult) - Need a US stock account + high assets (some brokers require ≥$250k) - Quota prioritized for institutions, low retail subscription rate 3. Indirect participation (more stable) - Buy global funds/ETFs holding SpaceX - Invest in Chinese supply chain companies (aerospace materials, satellite components, cables, etc.) 3. Risks and pitfalls (must see clearly) - Overvalued future: $1.75 trillion corresponds to a P/S ratio of 100, slight underperformance can lead to big drops - Business highly dependent on Musk: personal style, health, policy changes have big impacts - xAI heavy losses: lost $7.8 billion in the first 9 months of 2025, dragging down overall profit - Technical risks: multiple explosions of Starship, Mars/space data centers still distant - Policy/geopolitical risks: international regulation, export controls, US-China relations 4. Non-investment opportunities - Careers: talents in rockets/aviation/software/materials/AI can apply (very high requirements, intense work) - Entrepreneurship/supply chain: supporting satellites, communications, materials, testing services - Industry dividends: driving commercial space, satellite internet, space manufacturing sectors 5. Summary For those with strong risk tolerance and long-term optimism about the space economy: it is a top-tier opportunity. For those who prefer stability and fear high volatility: more like bubble-level speculation, participate cautiously.

Crypto Market Analysis: April 19, 2026 The cryptocurrency market is currently navigating a complex landscape characterized by institutional accumulation in Bitcoin, significant DeFi security concerns following the KelpDAO exploit, and heightened geopolitical volatility tied to Middle East developments. The Fear & Greed Index stands at 27, indicating persistent "Fear" sentiment despite recent institutional ETF inflows. ——— Key Market Developments 1. Bitcoin: Institutional Accumulation Amid Volatility Bitcoin is trading at approximately $75,066, down 1.6% over 24 hours, following a volatile week that saw prices swing between $74,888 and $76,354. The standout development is the record-breaking institutional activity: spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded nearly $1 billion in weekly inflows—the strongest performance since January 2026. This surge was driven by geopolitical de-escalation between the US and Iran, which temporarily reopened the Strait of Hormuz and triggered a massive short squeeze that liquidated $357 million in short positions within a single hour. However, market analysts caution that this rally was primarily driven by short covering rather than sustainable spot demand. The Coinbase Premium Index has remained positive for nine consecutive days, signaling renewed US institutional buying interest. Long-term holder concentration continues to increase, suggesting that retail investors have largely been flushed out of the market. 2. Ethereum: DeFi Security Crisis Dominates Narrative Ethereum faces more challenging conditions, trading at $2,312 (down 2.07% over 24 hours). The ecosystem is grappling with the fallout from the KelpDAO exploit—the largest DeFi hack of 2026—where attackers drained approximately $292 million in rsETH tokens through a LayerZero cross-chain bridge vulnerability. The incident triggered a cascade of reactions across the DeFi landscape: • Over $5.4 billion in assets were urgently withdrawn from Aave as users sought safety • Aave's Total Value Locked (TVL) plummeted 16.78% to $21.9 billion • USDT borrowing rates on Aave spiked to 14.99% • Multiple whales dumped AAVE tokens, causing a 15% price decline Despite these challenges, Ethereum's fundamentals remain robust: Q1 2026 saw a record 200 million on-chain transactions, with stablecoin supply reaching $180 billion. The upcoming Hong Kong Ethereum Community Center opening on April 21, featuring Vitalik Buterin, signals continued ecosystem development. 3. Market Sentiment and Technical Indicators Social media sentiment analysis reveals: • BTC: 63 bullish authors vs. 32 bearish authors (142 bullish tweets vs. 46 bearish) • ETH: 77 bullish authors vs. 69 bearish authors (116 bullish tweets vs. 88 bearish) Funding rates across major exchanges have turned negative for both BTC and ETH, with ETH showing deeper negative values (-0.007% to -0.009%), indicating stronger short pressure on Ethereum relative to Bitcoin. The market has entered a "liquidity redistribution" phase, with key support at $72,000 and resistance at $75,000 for Bitcoin. A break below $73,000 could trigger $538 million in long liquidations, while a break above $77,000 could trigger $607 million in short liquidations. ——— Risk Factors and Opportunities Key Risks: 1. Security Vulnerabilities: The KelpDAO exploit highlights ongoing risks in cross-chain bridge protocols and liquid restaking mechanisms 2. Geopolitical Uncertainty: Middle East tensions remain volatile, with the Strait of Hormuz situation subject to rapid changes 3. DeFi Contagion: The Aave withdrawal cascade demonstrates how quickly confidence can erode in DeFi protocols Opportunities: 1. Institutional Adoption: Traditional financial institutions like Morgan Stanley continue launching Bitcoin products 2. Accumulation Phase: Long-term holder data suggests smart money is accumulating at current levels 3. Regulatory Clarity: The CLARITY Act, while expanding surveillance powers, may provide clearer frameworks for institutional participation ——— Conclusion The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a transitional period where institutional interest is rising despite retail fear and DeFi security challenges. Bitcoin's ETF inflows demonstrate growing traditional finance acceptance, while Ethereum faces near-term headwinds from security incidents but maintains strong underlying fundamentals. For investors, the current environment favors a cautious approach: dollar-cost averaging into BTC during fear-driven dips, monitoring DeFi protocol security developments closely, and maintaining awareness of geopolitical risk factors that can trigger rapid market movements. The market structure suggests we are in a consolidation phase rather than a trend reversal, with the next significant move likely dependent on macroeconomic developments, regulatory clarity, and the resolution of current security concerns in the DeFi ecosystem. ——— Disclaimer: This analysis is for informational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice. Cryptocurrency markets are highly volatile and subject to rapid changes.
