Insider: Email Reveals U.S. Plans to Exclude Spain from NATO Due to Disagreements on Iran Issue

Gold Finance reports that on April 24th, an American official revealed to Reuters that an internal Pentagon email outlined the U.S. sanctions against NATO allies deemed to have failed to support American military actions in the war with Iran, including suspending Spain’s NATO membership and re-evaluating the U.S. stance on the UK’s sovereignty claims over the Falkland Islands. The official stated that relevant policy options are detailed in a memorandum that expressed dissatisfaction with some allies’ reluctance or refusal to grant access, station troops, and overflight rights (referred to as ABO) during the Iran conflict. The official said the email pointed out that ABO “is merely NATO’s absolute baseline,” and added that these proposals have been extensively discussed at the Pentagon’s senior levels. The official also mentioned that one plan mentioned in the email considers excluding “underperforming” countries from important or influential NATO positions. (East New Agency)
