Brazil WhatsApp malware attacks target encryption wallets and bank accounts

Abstract generation in progress

ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, Trustwave's cybersecurity research team SpiderLabs latest report reveals that a banking trojan named “Eternidade Stealer” is spreading widely in Brazil via WhatsApp. Attackers use social engineering tactics such as fake government program notifications, courier messages, and investment groups to trick users into clicking on malicious links. Once clicked, the malware simultaneously infects the device and hijacks the WhatsApp account, automatically spreading to the victim's contact list. The trojan can scan and steal login credentials from multiple Brazilian banks, fintech companies, and crypto assets exchanges. To avoid detection, the malware uses preset Gmail accounts to receive commands instead of fixed server addresses. Security experts advise users to remain vigilant about any links, even those from trusted contacts, and to keep software updated to prevent such attacks.
