On May 9, Jin10 reported that Romania's far-right presidential candidate Simeon stated in a television debate that Romania should receive compensation for providing assistance to Ukraine. This Eurosceptic nationalist achieved a landslide victory in the first round of the presidential election on Sunday, and a poll earlier this week showed him leading in the runoff election on May 18 against centrist Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan. In a debate later on Thursday, Nicusor Dan said that if elected, Romania's support for Ukraine would not waver. The 38-year-old Simeon opposes providing military aid to Ukraine, criticizes the EU leadership, and expresses support for Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement. Simeon stated that he would veto Brussels' military aid to Ukraine while asserting that Europe should rely on NATO for its defense. "Our position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict is neutral, no escalation, no weapon provision, in line with the Trump administration."
