On June 19 (UTC+8), at the SuperAI Conference held in Singapore yesterday, Olivier Klein, chief technology officer of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Asia Pacific, said that Agentic AI (agent-based artificial intelligence) with autonomous execution capabilities is becoming the core driving force of enterprise digitalization, and is moving from the “chatbot stage” to a more inferential and task execution application form. He noted that AWS is already driving the adoption of intelligent agents across multiple industries in Asia, with real-world applications in the enterprise backend, from software system modernization to enterprise operations optimization. Companies such as Grab, Samsung, and Canva have replaced some of their manual processes in-house with AI agents, saving a lot of development man-hours. He emphasised that AI is shifting from “big and comprehensive” to “small and specialized” to cope with energy consumption and cost pressures. In the face of surging computing demand, AWS is ramping up its infrastructure investment, announcing plans for more than $47 billion in new investments in Japan, India, and Australia this week alone. Klein also mentioned that in order to meet the sustainable development of AI inference computing, AWS is promoting self-developed chips, supporting language processing units (LPUs), and expanding the use of renewable energy. According to Klein, trends to watch in the future include “emotional speech synthesis” and “continuous reimagining of traditional IT systems with AI” to free up developers’ time to innovate.
