2025 Taiwan Google Crypto Trending Keywords: Bitcoin, Pi Coin Surpass ChatGPT in Popularity

2025 Google Trends Taiwan search data shows that searches for Bitcoin and Ethereum continue to rise, but the biggest dark horse is Pi Coin, which jumped to sixth place on the list with a 350% increase in search volume, even surpassing AI keywords like ChatGPT and GPT. The search volume for “Bitcoin price in USD” grew 130% year-over-year to become the tenth most popular keyword, while “Ethereum” searches grew 80%, ranking as the tenth most searched topic.

2025 Taiwan Google Finance Keyword Rankings

As we enter the last month of 2025, some interesting data has been compiled from Google search trends. According to Google Trends data for the 12 months leading up to December 1, 2025, Taiwan’s most popular finance-related searches centered on currencies such as the US dollar, exchange rates, New Taiwan dollar, and Japanese yen, dominating the top four searches over the past year.

This phenomenon reflects the Taiwanese public’s heightened attention to exchange rate fluctuations. In 2025, with global economic volatility persisting, a strong US dollar led to dramatic swings in the NT dollar exchange rate, while the yen became a popular safe-haven currency due to policy shifts by the Bank of Japan. The strong performance of these traditional financial keywords shows that despite the rise of cryptocurrencies, traditional currencies and exchange rates remain the top financial concerns for people in Taiwan.

In terms of soaring popularity, “Trump tariffs” became the annual keyword, reflecting the impact of geopolitics on finance. After Trump returned to the White House in 2025 and imposed a 100% tariff on Chinese imports, global markets were shaken. As a technology hub, Taiwan’s supply chain and exports were directly affected, causing a surge in search volume on this topic.

Second place goes to “Samsung Powerball Fourfold Ten Periods,” originating from an urban legend on Threads, which claims this lottery ticket is particularly easy to win. This social media-driven search trend shows Taiwanese netizens’ enthusiasm for “get-rich-quick hacks,” and highlights the powerful influence of social platforms in information dissemination.

Bitcoin Search Volume Up 130% Year-over-Year, Ethereum Remains Top Ten

In terms of search topics, “Ethereum” searches in Taiwan grew 80% in 2025, ranking tenth on the list. Although this growth rate is not as high as Bitcoin or Pi Coin, considering that Ethereum is already a mature cryptocurrency, an 80% annual growth rate is still quite impressive. Ethereum’s performance in 2025 benefited from the continued expansion of its smart contract ecosystem and performance improvements following the Ethereum 2.0 upgrade.

The search volume for “Bitcoin price in USD” grew 130% year-over-year, ranking as the tenth most popular keyword. The specificity of this keyword is noteworthy—Taiwanese users are searching for “Bitcoin price in USD” rather than just “Bitcoin,” indicating that investors are focusing on Bitcoin’s actual price movements in US dollars, rather than just conceptual understanding. The 130% growth rate reflects the huge influx of new interest driven by Bitcoin’s price performance in 2025.

On the same list, “Ether” ranked fourteenth, even surpassing keywords like “Tesla stock” and “0050” (Taiwan 50 ETF), both of which are very familiar investment targets for Taiwanese investors. This ranking is significant, as Ether’s ability to surpass these traditional investment targets reflects the surge in interest in cryptocurrencies in the Taiwanese market.

Three Major Drivers Behind the Growth of Bitcoin and Ether Searches

Record-High Prices Grab Attention: Bitcoin broke the $100,000 mark in 2025, with Ethereum nearing its all-time high. Price breakouts triggered media coverage and social discussions.

Accelerated Institutional Adoption: US Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs continue to attract capital, and traditional financial giants like BlackRock entering the space have increased trust.

Improved Regulatory Environment: The Trump administration has promoted crypto-friendly policies, and the US SEC has stopped investigations into mainstream cryptocurrencies, reducing investment concerns.

This growth trend shows that cryptocurrencies have moved from being fringe investment targets into the mainstream financial discussion. When Bitcoin and Ether search volumes can compete with traditional stocks and ETFs, it indicates that Taiwanese investors’ asset allocation mindsets are undergoing a fundamental shift.

Pi Coin Search Volume Soars 350% to Become the Biggest Dark Horse

But this wasn’t the most discussed cryptocurrency over the past year. In fact, “Pi Coin” surged to sixth place on the list with a 350% increase in search volume, even surpassing AI-related keywords like “GPT” and “ChatGPT.” This result is quite astonishing, as ChatGPT was one of Taiwan’s hottest tech keywords from 2023 to 2024. Pi Coin’s price outpacing it in search growth shows just how much attention this cryptocurrency has attracted in Taiwan.

Pi Coin is the native token issued by Pi Network, a cryptocurrency that has been promoted through ground campaigns for years and touts mobile mining. Due to the long wait before the token launch, it accumulated a large number of participants, making Pi Coin a hot topic. When the mainnet launch was announced this year, it instantly became a top keyword across the web. Pi Coin’s uniqueness lies in its viral growth model—users invite friends and family to join to increase mining efficiency. This referral mechanism has created a massive participant network in Taiwanese online communities.

The surge in Pi Coin search volume was concentrated around the time of the mainnet launch. Long-term participants were eager to find out the actual value of their Pi holdings, while newcomers wanted to know whether this “mobile-mined” cryptocurrency was worth investing in. However, Pi Coin’s actual price performance did not fully match the search hype. The price briefly spiked at mainnet launch but then fell as early participants sold off.

It’s worth noting that Pi Coin’s search popularity surpassing ChatGPT also reflects that Taiwanese internet users are much more sensitive to “money-making opportunities” than to “technological innovation.” ChatGPT represents productivity tools and the AI revolution, while Pi Coin represents investment opportunities and wealth effects. When the two compete in search volume, the latter’s victory shows that enthusiasm for crypto investment in Taiwan has reached an unprecedented high.

Deeper Meaning Behind Taiwan’s Cryptocurrency Search Trends

Google Trends uses a relative scoring system, with the most searched topic scoring 100, while a topic with only half the search frequency scores 50. “Rising popularity” refers to topics with the greatest increase in search frequency over the past 12 months; topics with explosive growth are marked as “breakout,” indicating they were almost never searched before.

Pi Coin’s price ranked sixth on the rising popularity chart precisely because it had virtually no search volume in 2024 (since it hadn’t launched its mainnet yet), but exploded after the mainnet launch in 2025. This zero-to-peak surge resulted in a 350% growth rate. In contrast, while Bitcoin and Ethereum had higher absolute search volumes, their growth rates were relatively moderate because they already had baseline search volumes.

This list reveals several characteristics of Taiwan’s cryptocurrency market. First, Taiwanese investors maintain a high curiosity about emerging cryptocurrencies and are willing to pay attention to and research new projects. Second, community transmission and word-of-mouth effects are extremely effective in Taiwan; Pi Coin’s ground campaign model’s massive success in Taiwan is proof. Third, the high search volumes for price-related keywords show that Taiwanese interest in cryptocurrencies is primarily focused on investment returns rather than technical fundamentals.

From a broader perspective, the ability of cryptocurrency keywords to compete with traditional financial topics—and even surpass stocks and ETFs in some subcategories—marks a significant shift in Taiwan’s financial investment ecosystem. In the future, as more institutional-grade products enter the market and regulatory frameworks are gradually improved, the search heat for cryptocurrencies in Taiwan may continue to rise.
