Qatar official: All energy-exporting countries in the Gulf region may cease oil and gas production within weeks
On March 6th local time, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida al-Kaabi stated that Qatar has halted liquefied natural gas production, and even if the conflict ends immediately, it will take several weeks to months for Qatar to return to normal supply levels. Kaabi predicted that all energy-exporting countries in the Gulf region could cease oil and gas production within a few weeks. On March 2nd, QatarEnergy announced that due to drone attacks on two of its energy facilities that day, it decided to suspend the production of liquefied natural gas and related products. Qatar’s natural gas reserves rank third in the world, with liquefied natural gas production accounting for about 20% of global supply. In 2025, Qatar exported 82.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas. (CCTV News)
