The first beam extraction from the first line station of China's Second Phase Spallation Neutron Source project has been successful.

According to reporters from the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, on March 5th, the neutron technology development beamline station of the China Spallation Neutron Source, a large scientific facility located in Guangdong, successfully released a beam, began beam tuning, and preliminary beam performance tests met expectations. This marks the successful completion of equipment development and installation for the beamline station, making it the first beamline station to achieve beam output since the start of construction of the China Spallation Neutron Source Phase II project in January 2024.
