Recently, I was pondering an interesting question—how much does a super billionaire like Elon Musk actually earn in a day? This question is much more complicated than it looks because his "income" isn't traditional wages at all.
First, a key point: Musk's salary from Tesla in 2024 is zero. That's right, zero. His wealth growth mainly comes from the appreciation of his stock holdings, especially the value changes of Tesla and SpaceX. So when we say "how much does he earn in a day," we're really talking about how much his net worth increases.
Depending on the calculation method, the numbers vary quite a bit. Some reports say his wealth increased by about $203 billion in 2024, which averages out to $584M per day. From another perspective, based on long-term averages, it's roughly $90 million per day. There are more aggressive estimates based on growth during parts of 2025, calculating about $236 million per day. Honestly, the exact figure depends entirely on how you calculate it because the market is constantly changing.
To understand how much Musk spends or grows in a day, you first need to grasp what these numbers mean. Breaking down the daily growth further makes it more intuitive—according to the most conservative estimates, his wealth increases by about $8.3 million per hour, $138k per minute, and over $2,300 per second. That sounds crazy, but remember, this is all paper wealth, not actual cash deposited into a bank account.
His wealth sources are actually quite concentrated. Tesla is the main contributor; he is both an early investor and CEO, holding a large amount of stock. SpaceX, the private aerospace company, is valued at hundreds of billions of dollars. Plus Neuralink, The Boring Company, xAI, and his ownership of X platform—all together, the asset portfolio is staggering. But most of this wealth is locked in stocks and company valuations, making it hard to convert into cash.
That’s why Musk’s daily growth figures fluctuate so much. A market fluctuation can cause his "daily income" to differ by several times. Sometimes, during a market rally, his daily increase might exceed $138k; during a downturn, the number drops significantly.
Finally, it’s important to emphasize a point many people confuse: net worth growth ≠ actual cash income. Musk isn’t actually depositing billions into his bank account every day. These numbers reflect how much his companies and assets are worth on the market. So rather than asking "how much does he earn in a day," it’s more accurate to say "how much does his net worth increase in a day." The two concepts are very different, but the media often mix them up, creating those sensational headlines.
