Just realized a lot of people struggling with their SASSA grants because they haven't updated their banking details. If you're on SRD, the good news is you can do it online through their portal - way easier than the permanent grants situation. You'll need your SA ID number and Application ID, then they send you an SMS link to verify everything. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to confirm, but at least it's straightforward.

For the permanent grants though, it's different story. You actually have to go to a SASSA office in person and fill out forms. They need your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months), and they'll verify your biometrics. Just remember - the account has to be only in your name, no joint accounts or anything. If you submit before the 15th of the month, it takes effect next month. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another cycle.

Also heads up about changing your cellphone number - especially if you're on SRD. Your phone number is how they send you that verification link and payment notifications, so you need to update it properly. Use the official portal, not some random website claiming they can change your details. And if the online thing isn't working for you, just call the helpline or go to your local office. Takes longer but at least you know it's legit.
