Iran submits legal documents to the International Maritime Organization denying the claim of "blockading the Strait of Hormuz."
Deep Tide TechFlow News, April 13 — Iran submitted a legal document at the International Maritime Organization Legal Committee meeting, expressing its position on the results of the previous special council meeting. Iran denies the claim of “blockading the Strait of Hormuz” and points out that the fundamental reason for the worsening maritime security situation in the Persian Gulf is due to external military actions. At the same time, Iran emphasizes that any so-called “safe maritime passage” arrangements must be approved by Iran.
Regarding the international navigation issue in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran clearly states in the document that the strait remains open to international navigation, but due to the deteriorating security environment, the associated risks have significantly increased. Concerning some countries’ proposals to establish a “safe maritime corridor,” Iran emphasizes that as a coastal country along the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has the legal right to oversee navigation safety and management in the relevant waters. Any shipping arrangements must be fully coordinated with and approved by the relevant Iranian authorities; otherwise, it would constitute interference with the jurisdiction of the coastal state.
