Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details, especially as we're getting closer to the December payments. Thought I'd share what I learned because the process is actually different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're on a permanent grant like old age or disability, you'll need to physically go to your SASSA office—can't do it online unfortunately. Bring your ID, proof of your new bank account (stamped statement not older than 3 months works), and be ready to fill out their Payment Method Change Form. Takes up to 21 working days after that, so if you want it sorted for next month, submit before the 15th. They won't pay into joint accounts, only accounts in your name, so keep that in mind.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's way smoother. Everything's online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, click it, update your banking details, and done. Takes a few days to weeks for verification but way less hassle than going to an office. Same rule though—account has to be in your name.

For changing your phone number, permanent grants need a formal visit or a call to 0800 60 10 11. But SRD has a contact details page where you can update it yourself—they'll send an OTP to confirm. Just make sure you're using the official SASSA website because there's apparently fake sites trying to catch people out.

Honestly, if you're unsure about anything, just call SASSA or visit in person. Waiting times can be rough but it's safer than trying to figure it out online, especially if your situation is a bit complicated. Anyone else dealt with this recently?
