The German Chancellor reiterates that Germany will not participate in escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Local time on March 18, ahead of departing for Brussels to attend the EU summit, German Chancellor Scholz delivered a speech in the German Federal Parliament, addressing the issue of Iran. Scholz said that the German government still has many questions about this war. Scholz said that the United States did not consult Europe on the relevant actions, nor did it believe that Europe’s involvement was necessary. Scholz emphasized that as long as the war continues, Germany would not take part in related military actions, including using military means in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure freedom of navigation, because at present there is neither a clear plan nor authorization from the United Nations, the EU, or NATO. But he also said this does not rule out Germany using diplomatic means to help bring the conflict to a rapid cooling down. (CCTV News)
