Intel (Intel) said in a post on the social platform X that it will help electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla (Tesla) with its TeraFab project by restructuring the technology behind its chip factories.

Intel Chief Executive Officer Chen Zhixuwu (Chen Zhixuwu) said in another post on the X platform that Terafab represents a major leap in how future silicon logic, storage, and packaging will be built. He added that Intel is honored to be a partner and will work closely with Elon Musk on this highly strategic project.

Chen Zhixuwu noted that the company’s capabilities in large-scale design, manufacturing, and packaging of ultra-high-performance chips will help accelerate Terafab in achieving its goal of producing 1 terawatt of compute power per year, to drive advances in future artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technology.

The Terafab project is a grand plan by Musk, aiming to ultimately manufacture its own chips for robots, AI, and space data centers. Tesla is already able to design its own chips, but Musk’s companies had never truly produced these chips before. Now, he envisions achieving mass production at a scale capable of rivaling TSMC.
