Iraq's Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes US-Iran ceasefire, calls for dialogue to strengthen regional security
People’s Finance News, April 8 — In the early hours of April 8 local time, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement welcoming the ceasefire announced by the United States and Iran. The statement said this development will help ease tensions in the region, expand opportunities for all parties to de-escalate conflict, and consolidate security and stability in the region. The statement reiterated that Iraq supports all regional and international efforts to contain the crisis and promote dialogue and diplomacy. The statement emphasized the importance of all parties fully complying with the ceasefire, and avoiding any actions that could once again escalate regional tensions. The statement called on all parties, on the basis of this positive initiative, to launch a serious and sustained dialogue process to address the root causes of disagreements and enhance mutual trust. The statement emphasized that Iraq will continue to pursue a balanced foreign policy, support efforts aimed at achieving regional and international peace and security, in line with the interests of the peoples of the countries in the region, and promote stability and development, laying the groundwork for a new phase based on ending the war, respecting national sovereignty, fostering good-neighborly relations, and non-interference in internal affairs.
