Foreign media report that Iran will charge shipping fees for the Strait of Hormuz. Chinese side responds.

On April 8, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference.

A foreign media reporter asked a question. According to reports, Iran intends to charge a shipping fee for each vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz and to share the revenue with Oman. What is China’s position on this?

Mao Ning said that the Strait of Hormuz is an important energy trade route, and safeguarding security, stability, and free passage in this region is in line with the common interests of the international community. We hope that all parties will work together to help the strait return to normal as soon as possible.
