Seven departments jointly issue opinions to accelerate the green transformation and high-quality development of small hydropower

On the 18th, a reporter learned from the Ministry of Water Resources that, to fully implement the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council on the development of water conservancy and energy, the Ministry of Water Resources and seven other departments recently jointly issued the “Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Green Transformation and High-Quality Development of Small Hydropower.”

A relevant official from the Ministry of Water Resources said that the Opinions have arranged the work for the green transformation and high-quality development of small hydropower in the current period and in the coming period, and clearly stated that by 2035, it will basically achieve intelligent, intensive, and standardized power stations, thereby forming a high-quality development framework for small hydropower that is compatible with the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development. The Opinions focus on making provisions regarding strictly controlling the development of small hydropower, carrying out improvement and upgrade of small hydropower, improving ecological protection and restoration measures, enhancing the capacity for safe production in small hydropower, giving full play to small hydropower’s role in helping achieve comprehensive rural revitalization and providing regulation and support, and improving supporting measures, among other aspects, and put forward clear requirements.

The reporter learned that in the next step, the Ministry of Water Resources will work with relevant departments to ensure the effective implementation of the Opinions, guide local authorities to further break down and implement each task, promptly study and resolve issues arising in the implementation of the Opinions, and ensure that the green transformation and high-quality development of small hydropower delivers tangible results, providing strong support for the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development.
