The United States has increased the estimated cost of its “Golden Dome” missile defense system to $185 billion to counter evolving threats, with key contractors like Lockheed Martin, RTX Corporation, and Northrop Grumman involved. The system, initiated by the Trump administration in 2025, aims to combine ground-based interceptors with satellites for detecting and tracking missile threats, serving as an advanced, nationwide version of Israel’s Iron Dome. While the Pentagon expects delivery over the next decade, officials acknowledge that space-based interceptors remain the most challenging and costly component.
