On April 8, Federal Reserve’s Goolsbee expressed concerns that the war in Iran could not only slow economic growth but also raise inflation rates, placing the Fed in a tricky situation due to the lack of a clear ‘playbook’ on how to respond. Goolsbee stated, ‘What worries me most right now is that we have to deal with an impending oil crisis, which will lead to price increases in the form of stagflation. Tariffs had previously caused prices to surge, but they were expected to gradually decline, and now the shock is hitting before the impact has subsided.’
