CATL declares: Without us, the U.S. electric vehicle market is doomed to fail
(Source: Kuai Technology)
Kuai Technology March 25 news: According to reports, recently, Ningde Times’ Chairman Zeng Yuqun said in an interview that the adoption rate of electric vehicles in the United States is lagging behind China and Europe only as a temporary phenomenon, and the trend of electrification in the industry is irreversible. In the end, the United States will fully embrace Ningde Times’ battery technology for the sake of cost and technological competitiveness.
He further pointed out that the United States lacks a team of more than 21,000 electrochemical engineers like Ningde Times. The domestic battery industry has little accumulated expertise, making it difficult to independently achieve breakthroughs in key technologies.
Zeng Yuqun also mentioned that in the United States, talent and capital are more inclined to flow into high-profit areas such as chips, software, and artificial intelligence. The battery industry in the U.S. has not received much attention, and is even viewed as a “industry without a future.”
It is precisely based on this situation that even when facing political obstacles set by the United States and so-called “national security” restrictions, Zeng Yuqun remains optimistic about market prospects.
He stated directly that both U.S. consumers and automakers need Ningde Times. The company can both tightly control costs and deliver cutting-edge battery technology. For high-end electrified products, without Ningde Times’ support, it will be impossible to move an inch.
The facts also confirm this judgment: even though the U.S. has imposed high tariffs and entry barriers, Ford, General Motors, and Tesla still chose to cooperate deeply with Ningde Times.
Ford builds a battery plant in the U.S. through patent licensing; General Motors is willing to take on 60% of tariff costs for importing its batteries; and Tesla’s energy storage projects also use Ningde Times’ technology.
Data shows that for every 3 electric vehicles globally, 1 is equipped with Ningde Times batteries. Its flagship lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) has a cost about 30% lower than traditional routes, and its advantages at scale are far ahead.
Regarding the market landscape, Zeng Yuqun predicts that in 2028, U.S. market entry restrictions may undergo a change, and business logic will ultimately surpass short-term political resistance.
At present, Ningde Times has already deployed sodium-ion batteries, which can further reduce costs and improve adaptability in extreme cold environments. Several Chinese automakers have already reached cooperation agreements with it.
Although U.S. and Korean battery manufacturers are racing to catch up with LFP technology, insiders openly acknowledge that the U.S.’s independent R&D would still take at least around ten years.
