U.S. February durable goods orders decline by 1.4%

U.S. durable goods orders fell 1.4% month over month in February, while the market expected a decline of 1%.

During the period, durable goods orders excluding transportation rose 0.8% month over month, versus expectations for a gain of 0.4%; durable goods orders excluding defense fell 1.2%.

Excluding aircraft, non-defense capital goods orders rose 0.6% month over month, versus expectations for an increase of 0.4%, but the prior month’s data were sharply revised downward, indicating that businesses’ equipment spending in the first quarter has slowed.
