The EU says the Iran-related situation is "deeply concerning" and calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint.
Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen issued a joint statement on February 28 on the situation in Iran, saying that developments related to Iran are “deeply concerning” and that the EU is maintaining close communication with regional partners; at the same time, they urged all parties to exercise the utmost restraint, protect civilians, and fully respect international law. On the same day, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kallas, also posted on social media, saying that the latest developments in the Middle East are “dangerously escalating.” Kallas said that she has spoken with Israel’s Foreign Minister Saar as well as with foreign ministers of other countries in the region, and that the EU is also coordinating closely with Arab partners.
