Qingming Holiday: The average daily sales of key retail and catering enterprises nationwide increased by 2.4% year-on-year
Reporters learned from the Ministry of Commerce that during the Qingming Festival holiday, multiple regions implemented spring vacation extended consecutively, effectively unleashing consumer demand and injecting vitality into the spring consumer market.
According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, during the Qingming Festival holiday, the average daily sales revenue of key retail and catering enterprises nationwide increased by 2.4% year over year. For the 78 pedestrian streets (business districts) under the Ministry of Commerce’s key monitoring, both foot traffic and business revenue increased by 6.0% and 6.7%, respectively.
In terms of goods consumption, as of April 5, the 2026 auto trade-in program received a total of 1.53M subsidy applications, driving new car sales revenue of RMB 246.8 billion. For the trade-in of home appliances and for sales of digital and smart “buy new” products, 62.85M units were sold, driving sales revenue of RMB 215.97 billion. According to the Ministry of Commerce, sales revenue for smart glasses and for smart watches and bands on key platforms increased by 3.2 times and 12.3 times, respectively.
In terms of services consumption, data show that during the Qingming Festival holiday, the sales revenue of catering enterprises under the Ministry of Commerce’s key monitoring grew by 3.9%. For key platforms, hotel accommodation consumption grew by 2.6%, the number of intercity trips increased by 15.1% year over year, theme park consumption grew by 11.7% year over year, parent-child research and study orders doubled year over year, and car rental order volume grew by about 40%.
