Just realized how much Pakistan's currency has depreciated against the dollar over the decades. Back in 2010, 1 USD was around 85.75 PKR, which seemed high at that time. But looking at the full picture from 1947 onwards, the dollar rate in year 2010 in pakistan was actually still relatively stable compared to what we're seeing now. In 1947, right after independence, 1 USD was only 3.31 PKR. It stayed flat for nearly a decade, then started creeping up through the 50s and 60s. The real acceleration kicked in during the 90s and 2000s - by 2000 it hit 51.90, and by 2010 it had climbed to that 85.75 mark. Fast forward to 2024 and we're looking at 277 PKR per dollar. That's a massive depreciation in just 14 years. The currency has basically lost more than 3x its value since 2010. Wild how economic pressures compound over time.
