I just saw that many beginners in crypto still have questions about what holding is and how you actually make money with this strategy. Let me share my perspective after years in this market.
Holding basically means buying cryptocurrencies and keeping them for the long term, hoping they will increase in value so you can sell later for a profit. It sounds simple, but many people don’t understand it well. The reality is that you don’t need to be a professional trader to make money in crypto. Sometimes patience is your best weapon.
Why does this work? If you look at Bitcoin, it has a halving every four years, and afterward, it tends to reach new highs. Altcoins generally follow the same pattern because they are correlated with BTC. So if you understand this cycle, holding makes a lot of sense. Time is literally your ally here.
Now, there are different ways to hold. The most obvious is making a large one-time investment and waiting, which is called buy-and-hold. But if you want to be more strategic, you can make periodic purchases with similar amounts regardless of the price—that’s Dollar Cost Averaging. There’s also the option to buy when prices drop, the famous “buy the dip.” Each method has its logic.
What I see many people overlook are the disadvantages. If you average your purchases, you might miss out on opportunities to buy at huge discounts. And if you have significant capital, it will take time to accumulate everything you want. But honestly, the point isn’t to obsess over the perfect tactic, but to start accumulating and holding.
My advice for beginners: forget about 5-minute charts. Learn the basics, understand why holding works in market cycles, and then combine strategies as you feel comfortable. You can mix strong entry buys with periodic averaging. The important thing is to start now because the time you don’t invest today is time you lose.
This afternoon I’m reviewing some moves on Gate, and honestly, there are good opportunities if you know what you’re looking for. So, that’s it—time to accumulate! ♥️
