Artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic has updated Claude’s usage policy. Starting at 3:00 PM Eastern Time on April 4, Claude subscription plans will no longer include usage quotas for OpenClaw (commonly known as “lobster”) and other third-party tools. If a subscriber wants to continue using Claude via OpenClaw, they must use a “pay-as-you-go” plan, and the costs will be calculated separately from Claude subscription fees.

Boris Cherny, an executive at Anthropic Claude Code, explained that subscription users can still log in to use these tools through Claude, but they will need an additional usage bundle, or they can use a Claude API key.

“We’ve been working hard to meet Claude’s growing needs, but our subscription plans were not designed for these third-party tools’ usage patterns. Therefore, we need to carefully manage capacity-related resources and prioritize serving customers who use our products and APIs.”
