On April 4, a source informed CNBC that the U.S. Senate Banking Committee will hold a hearing on April 16 to consider Kevin Walsh’s nomination as Chair of the Federal Reserve. A separate criminal investigation into the Federal Reserve is ongoing, examining whether current Chair Jerome Powell made false statements to Congress regarding the costly renovations of the Fed’s office building. Despite this, Walsh’s nomination process is still moving forward, which could create a conflict with two parallel processes pushed by the Trump administration. Banking Committee member Thom Tillis has stated he will not vote to confirm Walsh until the investigation concludes, meaning Trump cannot advance both processes simultaneously. However, by continuing to push for the hearing, Trump is clearly attempting to achieve this goal. The Senate Banking Committee has not yet listed the hearing on its public agenda.
