OpenAI announces leadership changes; Chief Product and Business Officer Fidji Simo said in a memo to employees that her health has been particularly poor over the past month, affected by the worsening of a neuroimmune condition. She has decided to take a few weeks off, hoping it will help her recover.

“During my time in this role, I kept putting off medical checkups and new therapies, just so I could fully focus on work and not miss any day. But two weeks before I went on leave, I took time off for some medical checkups for the first time. Now it’s very clear that it was really pushing it too far—I truly need to try a new treatment approach to stabilize my health.”

Fidji Simo previously held multiple leadership roles at Meta (U.S.: META) and worked there for more than 10 years.

During Fidji Simo’s leave, OpenAI CEO Greg Brockman will oversee product and business, while Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap will move into a new position focusing on “special projects,” and will report directly to CEO Sam Altman.
