Trump: U.S. Fighter Jet Crash Will Not Affect Negotiations with Iran
On April 4, NBC News reported that in a brief phone interview, U.S. President Trump stated that the crash of a U.S. fighter jet would not impact negotiations with Iran. Trump declined to discuss the specifics of the ongoing search and rescue operations following the jet’s crash in Iran, but expressed dissatisfaction with some reports regarding the military action, as it is clearly a tense and sensitive situation. When asked whether the events of the day would affect negotiations with Iran, Trump said it would not be impacted. He stated, ‘No, not at all. No, this is war, we are fighting.’ Earlier, on April 3, Iran’s military public relations department reported that on that day, the Iranian national integrated air defense network successfully shot down a U.S. A-10 attack aircraft in the southern waters near the Strait of Hormuz after tracking and monitoring it. The Iranian side claimed that the aircraft belonged to ‘aggressive enemy forces.’ U.S. officials confirmed earlier that an A-10 ‘Warthog’ attack aircraft had crashed near the Strait of Hormuz, and the pilot on board had been rescued.
