There's also Getsmscode—it's cheap, but may have delays on less popular platforms, making it suitable for light users.

When using SMS reception platforms, be aware that some numbers are shared and can be used by others. Verification codes might be delayed, especially for less common countries or apps. My experience is that if you're just testing APIs, any platform supporting API access is enough. But if you need stable registration on a specific overseas website, it's best to prepare multiple numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is especially practical and helps avoid waste.

A small tip: don't use virtual numbers as your primary long-term number, as privacy and security are not guaranteed. Based on my experience, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the best overall—low latency and wide coverage. If you have to choose just one, both are worth trying.
