Industry data released on Tuesday shows that Amazon Web Services (AWS) Korea plans to invest a total of 7 trillion won (about $4.6 billion) in South Korea by 2031 to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure.

According to an information protection document posted by AWS Korea on the online portal of the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), the planned investment is additional investment beyond the 5.6 trillion won the company has already invested in South Korea.

The company said that these total investments of 12.6 trillion won are the largest investment to date by a global cloud services provider in South Korea.

AWS Korea said it plans to deploy generative AI in security investigations comprehensively through its cybersecurity services, and plans to expand it into South Korea’s public and financial sectors.

Ham Kee-ho, general manager of AWS Korea, said: “Information security is a top priority for AWS, and winning customer trust is the foundation of our business. We will continue to increase our investment to ensure that South Korean enterprises have secure and reliable foundations at every stage of AI application.”
