Yu Donglai: More than 50% of Fat Donglai's executives are junior high school graduates. It's okay if management team members leave; the key is financial transparency.
Tech.com.cn March 25, today, the 2026 Lianshang Supermarket City event was held in Xuchang, Henan. Pinduoduo founder Yu Donglai took the stage at Donglai and shared his experience, delivering a speech themed “From Survival to Better, from Learning to Belief.”
During the speech, Yu Donglai revealed: In Pinduoduo, more than 50% of executives are junior high school graduates. By guaranteeing employees have two days off per week and 40 days of annual leave, and if they are additionally given another one or two dozen days of vacation for traveling, employees’ lifestyles might be different.
He explained that at Pinduoduo, more than 50% of executives are junior high school graduates. They have a well-established system, and there is also a group of employees who love the company. Yu Donglai said, “Even if all the middle-level and management-level staff leave, the company’s development will still be fine.”
He then further mentioned, “As long as there are frontline employees who deliver and sell, and there is someone at the cashier, Pinduoduo can keep operating. The core is that the finances are transparent, the processes are also transparent, and the employees’ income and the company’s attitude toward employees make them willing to do the work—and everyone really cherishes their job.”
In the meantime, Yu Donglai also mentioned, “Currently we already ensure employees have two days off each week and rest on statutory holidays, and in addition there are 40 days of annual leave. Many of them now still follow a more traditional lifestyle. But if we give them another one or two dozen days for traveling, their lifestyle could be completely different.”
Worth noting is that, according to the 40-billion-asset profit distribution details previously released by Yu Donglai, Pinduoduo Group has a total of 10,194 employees, with total assets of 379,2900 million yuan (about 3.793 billion yuan).
Of these, the management team totals 718 people, accounting for 7.0% of the group’s total headcount. Corresponding assets are 151,4100 million yuan, representing 39.9%, covering levels such as store managers, store assistants, division directors, and others.
