CarMax to Pay $1.1 Million in Case Prosecuted by Multiple DAs, Including LA

CarMax has agreed to pay $1.1 million to settle a consumer protection lawsuit initiated by several district attorneys’ offices in California, including Los Angeles County. The lawsuit alleged that CarMax consistently failed to timely transfer vehicle ownership documents to buyers since 2019. Under the settlement, CarMax will implement new compliance measures and pay civil penalties, investigative costs, and restitution, totaling $1.1 million, without admitting liability.
