KPMG reportedly plans to cut jobs in its auditing department, affecting hundreds of people.

Bloomberg reported that, according to an internal memo from KPMG, about 600 employees have been informed that they may face layoffs, depending on the results of consultations. Insiders said that if the proposal moves forward after the consultation process, up to 440 people are expected to leave the business unit.

Sources indicate that this round of layoffs primarily targets assistant manager positions that have already obtained accounting qualifications.

A KPMG spokesperson stated that the current market environment means that the turnover rate for some areas of its audit team is very low, thus the proposal to scale down these areas; this decision was not made lightly.

The KPMG audit department has 7,100 employees.
