On February 25th, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning hosted a routine press conference. According to reports, the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan’s Security Policy Investigation Committee held a meeting on the 25th and approved a draft proposal aimed at expanding the scope of defense equipment exports. The draft proposes abolishing the previous “five categories” standard that limited exports to rescue and transportation purposes, in principle allowing the export of weapons with lethal capabilities such as fighter jets and escort ships. During the press conference, a reporter from Japanese television asked for China’s comments. Mao Ning stated that China expresses serious concern over the relevant reports. Mao Ning pointed out that due to Japan’s invasion history, its military security developments have always attracted the attention of neighboring Asian countries and the international community. In recent years, Japan has significantly adjusted its security policies, with Japanese officials openly advocating for nuclear armament, seeking to amend the “Three Non-Nuclear Principles,” and removing restrictions on weapons exports. This again exposes the ambitions of Japan’s right-wing forces to break through the constraints of the post-war international order and domestic law, aiming for re-militarization. The international community should remain highly vigilant, jointly defend the achievements of the victory in World War II and the post-war international order, and resolutely oppose Japan’s new militarist ambitions.
