Residents of Tehran swore allegiance to the newly elected leader of Iran, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, chosen by the Assembly of Experts. The ceremony took place at Enghelab Square, reports Mehr.

"Members of the Assembly of Experts, scholars, and representatives of the country's elite swore loyalty to the third leader of the Islamic Revolution and called this support a national and political duty," the agency writes.

According to ISNA, a huge crowd of citizens gathered at the square for the swearing-in. Tasnim also reports on the "incredible number of attendees." The agency notes that, in addition to Iranian flags, participants held photographs of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as well as images of the new Iranian leader.
