EU: Willing to Ease Tensions in Iran Situation and Encourage All Parties to Return to Negotiation Table

European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on the 9th that the EU is willing to do its best to de-escalate the current Iran situation and encourage all parties to return to the negotiating table.

On the same day, EU leaders held a video conference with leaders from several Middle Eastern countries regarding the latest developments in Iran. According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, EU leaders emphasized that the rules-based international order is under pressure, and dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable solutions.

EU leaders reaffirm their commitment to maintaining regional stability, call for the protection of civilians, full respect for international law and international humanitarian law, and the fulfillment of obligations under the principles of the UN Charter.

The statement also said that the EU will adjust and strengthen measures to protect key waterways and prevent disruptions to critical supply chains based on the evolving situation, in order to better respond to the challenges posed by the current circumstances.
