On March 8, a reporter learned from an informed source that Xiaomi’s former wearable business leader, Li Chuangqi, has secretly started a new venture. The new project focuses on the in-vehicle photovoltaic field and will collaborate with Xiaomi. An industry expert told the reporter, “Once the technology matures, integrating photovoltaics with the vehicle body will become an important part of automotive engineering. The high threshold makes it difficult to imitate easily, which means a huge incremental market.” The so-called in-vehicle photovoltaic refers to integrating solar panels on the roof, hood, body, or sunroof of a vehicle, converting solar energy into electrical power to supply the vehicle. Its core value lies in alleviating electric vehicle users’ “range anxiety.” An industry insider told the reporter, “If Xiaomi cars in the future can be equipped with in-vehicle photovoltaics, exposing them to sunlight for a day could add dozens of kilometers or even more to the range. For daily commuting, this could improve the user experience by reducing dependence on charging stations.” (Blue Whale News)
