On March 9, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah. Sheikh Nasser briefed on the latest regional situation, stating that Kuwait is not a party to the war but still affected by the conflict. Gulf countries, including Kuwait, remain committed to resolving disputes through dialogue but will not give up their legitimate right to self-defense. Kuwait highly appreciates China’s stance and efforts and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to jointly promote the early restoration of regional security and stability. Kuwait attaches great importance to and will continue to protect the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions. Wang Yi said that China has always advocated resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means. The current conflict is a war that should not have happened and is not beneficial to any party. The United States and Israel, without UN authorization, launched military attacks on Iran while negotiations between Iran and the US are ongoing, which clearly violates international law. At the same time, the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf countries should be fully respected, and any acts of attacking innocent civilians and non-military targets should be condemned. The urgent task is to cease fire and end the war as soon as possible. Gulf countries have consistently called for dialogue and negotiations, which China appreciates. China will continue to make efforts for peace. The Chinese government’s special envoy for Middle East issues has already gone to the region for mediation and will strengthen communication and exchanges with Kuwait and other countries. We hope and believe that Kuwait will safeguard the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Kuwait. (Xinhua)
