Khamenei himself may have misjudged the situation,

believing negotiations would resume on March 3rd,
so he chose to return to his official residence on the morning of the 28th to rest,
planning to reunite with his family afterward,
before later traveling to an underground bunker in the desert of eastern Iran.
As a result, a mole was embedded near him, Israel obtained intelligence,
and immediately struck Khamenei's official residence with air-launched ballistic missiles.
Iran's air defense system did not issue any warning,
and Khamenei was killed on the spot, with multiple family members buried in the rubble.
Now both Trump and Netanyahu are saying Khamenei is dead,
Israel says it has confirmed photos of the body,
Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi says he's not dead. Chinese media has also reported that Khamenei is dead.
The actual situation still needs to be confirmed.
Similar to last year's 12-day war,
Israel's first wave of strikes were all beheading operations,
with bombing targets concentrated on the residences and office facilities of the elite in north Tehran.
In this strike, Israel had at least 2 F-16 squadrons above the Kurdish-controlled areas of northern Iraq launching air-launched ballistic missiles,
and 2 F-35 squadrons penetrated deep into Iranian territory.
The refueling aircraft supporting them were deployed above the Suwayda-controlled areas in eastern Syria.
Israel chose to commence operations at around 9 a.m. Tehran time,
mainly to catch Khamenei at his official residence while resting without having retreated to a bunker.
