The head of the Treaty Law Department of the Ministry of Commerce answered a reporter’s question regarding the European Union’s request to establish a panel at the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning a WTO dispute related to standard-essential patent licensing litigation involving China. A reporter asked: We note that the EU announced on February 12 in Geneva that it would request the WTO Dispute Settlement Body to establish a panel regarding its litigation against China over judicial rulings related to standard-essential patent licensing disputes. What is China’s comment on this? Answer: China has repeatedly emphasized that we always attach great importance to intellectual property protection, strictly follow WTO rules and our accession commitments, continuously improve legislation and enforcement for IP protection, and have achieved notable results. China regrets the EU’s decision. Regarding the EU’s request, China will handle it properly according to WTO dispute settlement procedures and resolutely safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
