Xinhua News Agency comments on U.S.-Israel's crackdown on Iran: Reckless military actions do not bring true security

Abstract generation in progress

On February 28th, the United States and Israel launched a military strike against Iran. The U.S. threatened to “flatten” Iran’s missile industry and incited Iranians to “take over the government” after the military operation. This behavior of openly attacking a sovereign country and pressuring to overthrow its government is pure hegemonism and power politics.

Criticism of the U.S. invasion of Venezuela and the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president still lingers, and now the U.S. is taking military action against Iran again. The U.S. obsession with forcing other countries to submit through military means is a blatant violation of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and a serious departure from basic international relations norms. History repeatedly shows that resorting to force does not bring true security but only creates more conflicts and hatred, pushing the already fragile security situation in the Middle East into an unpredictable abyss.

It is worth noting that this military action occurred at a time when U.S.-Iran negotiations were making “good progress.” While a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution appeared, Israel and the U.S. insisted on pulling the trigger. As Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Medvedev said, “All negotiations with Iran are just a smokescreen, there is no doubt about that.” Ultimately, the U.S. does not want a non-nuclear Iran; it wants an Iran without sovereignty. Rather than for “security,” it is for hegemony.

Under the guise of safeguarding its own security, the U.S. repeatedly intervenes in the internal affairs of sovereign countries and forcibly promotes regime change—this is a recurring hegemonic script played out worldwide. No country has the right to decide the fate of another. A review of Middle Eastern history shows that every misguided military intervention is rarely the end of the problem but the beginning of deeper disasters. The Iraq War, Libya crisis, Syrian civil war… these tragedies repeatedly confirm the same fact: guns can destroy cities but cannot establish peace. The so-called “democracy,” “freedom,” and “prosperity” once promised ultimately turn into scars and displacement.

This practice of placing its so-called “absolute security” above the sovereignty and survival rights of other nations is no different from returning the world to the “jungle era” of strength over weakness. History will ultimately prove that the logic of power can never bring true security, and reckless hegemonism will eventually backfire.
