Things I wasn't allowed to do in my rented apartment when I lived in Germany:

1. No drilling after 3:30 PM. People need to rest.
2. No air conditioning (ruins the climate)
3. No cooking fish after 8 PM
4. No guests staying more than 2 consecutive nights without registering at the town hall (tourist tax).
5. No candles (fire hazard)
6. No pets allowed
7. No washing machine use on Sundays
8. No showers longer than 10 minutes (water saving)
Of course, Americans will read this and shout "Freedom!". But it's safe, regulated, and predictable.
And I only paid €1,850 for my spacious 29m2 studio, a bargain.
