According to a report from CoinWorld, Jesse Pollak, the head of the Base protocol, stated in an interview with Fortune magazine that the code for Base is open source and that this chain aims to become an ecosystem similar to Linux, used by a variety of different crypto assets developers. This is also an important reason why Coinbase plans to issue tokens on Base—to coordinate incentive mechanisms and the decentralization of tokens. Jesse mentioned that token issuance often comes at the expense of the broader community related to blockchain, enriching the supporters. Therefore, Coinbase is proceeding cautiously, determined not to rush into deploying tokens, and does not intend to announce a release date anytime soon.
