Damn, I have always been amazed by this strange distribution of height across the planet! Recently, I collected data, and the result is just shocking – the difference between nations reaches almost 25 centimeters!
The Dutch at 182.5 cm are just giants compared to the Yemenis (159.9 cm). I wouldn't want to find myself at a basketball game between these countries!
It's funny that Russians, with our height of 176.5 cm, ended up somewhere in the middle, next to the Spaniards. I always thought we were a country of big men! Apparently, the stereotype of the "Russian bear" is greatly exaggerated.
I noticed an interesting thing – almost all of Northern Europe is above 180 cm. What are they eating there? Or maybe it’s in the genes? Or maybe it’s the climate? It’s cold – you have to grow up to be further from the snow!
Asian countries such as Japan (170.8 cm) and China (171.8 cm) also do not reach European levels. Although the Chinese have clearly improved in recent years – they used to be much lower.
The saddest thing is that the difference in rise between rich and poor countries is not only genetics. It is primarily access to proper nutrition. In the poorest countries, people simply do not get enough to eat in childhood, hence the low rise.
Interesting how this map will change in 50 years? Will all nations become taller or is the genetic ceiling already close?
🇳🇱 Netherlands: 182.5 cm
🇧🇪 Belgium: 181.7 cm
🇪🇪 Estonia: 181.6 cm
...
🇾🇪 Yemen: 159.9 cm
