The 100 million XRP airdrop plan is fake news! Ripple CTO confirms it is an AI fabricated video.
AI-generated videos spreading false XRP Airdrop schemes
In the past 24 hours, a forged video has been widely circulated on social media platforms such as X, in which the impersonated Ripple CEO Garlinghouse claims to launch an "XRP Rewards Program," stating that in celebration of the victory over the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) lawsuit, 100 million XRP will be distributed to users.
Ripple CTO David Schwartz quickly spoke out on X, stating: "This is an obvious scam, it's an AI-generated fake video." He reminded community members to stay vigilant and not to be deceived.
XRP price surge becomes a breeding ground for scams
The current price of XRP is $3.62, up 16% on the day. Recently, with rumors that Ripple is about to reach a settlement with the SEC, market sentiment has soared, providing a "breeding ground" for scammers.
Experts like Black Swan Capitalist co-founder Versan Aljarrah remain optimistic about the future trend of XRP. This optimism in the market has also been exploited by scammers, who take the opportunity to expand the influence of their schemes.
Fraud is rampant after Ripple's legal victory
This is not the first time such a situation has occurred. In July 2023 and August 2024, after Ripple's two major legal victories against the SEC, there were numerous fake accounts, airdrop scams, and other fraudulent activities online.
For example, after Ripple defeated the SEC and was fined $12.5 million in August 2024, various types of "Airdrop" and "coin giveaway" activities surged. Ripple officials also specifically reminded users: "We and our executives will never ask users to send funds or participate in 'XRP giveaway activities.'"
Schwartz also stated in 2023: "Many scammers will use good news to spread scams. There are currently no airdrops or special events related to the ruling." Conclusion: As the price of XRP breaks new highs, scammers are taking the opportunity to use AI to forge content to lure users into participating in fake airdrop activities. Ripple has repeatedly clarified that it will not issue airdrops or request funds, and users should remain highly vigilant against social media scams. In the increasingly complex market environment, the ability to discern information will be one of the most important shields for investors.
