British media: the UK seeks to attract Anthropic to expand its operations in the UK
Deep Tide TechFlow message, April 05, according to the Financial Times in the UK, the UK is trying to get Anthropic to expand its business in the country. The newspaper, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that the UK government’s recommendations to Anthropic ranged from expanding its office in London to a dual listing. Anthropic and the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
The office of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has consistently supported the work of the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. When Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei visited the UK at the end of May, the UK would present this recommendation to Amodei. The U.S. government previously placed Anthropic on a blacklist, determining that the company posed a risk to the national security supply chain because Anthropic refused to allow the military to use the AI chatbot Claude for U.S. surveillance or autonomous weapon systems. A U.S. judge has temporarily blocked the implementation of that blacklist. The AI startup has also filed a second lawsuit over the supply-chain risk determination, and the case is still pending.
