The U.S. House of Representatives passed a temporary spending bill, which may trigger intense clashes in the Senate.

On September 19, according to U.S. media reports, the House of Representatives passed a temporary spending bill aimed at avoiding a federal government shutdown crisis on October 1. However, this also means that the Senate will need to engage in intense battles over the bill later on Friday—Democrats are expected to reject the bill on the grounds of "the need to increase healthcare spending." House Speaker Johnson overcame some dissatisfaction from his Republican colleagues, pushing the bill through with a vote of 217 in favor and 212 against. Almost all House Democrats voted against the bill. The Senate plans to review both the bill submitted by the House and an "alternative temporary spending bill" proposed by Democratic leader Schumer later on Friday (which is intended to fund the government until October 31). Both versions of the bill are expected to face rejection, meaning that with less than two weeks before the October 1 deadline, the U.S. government will be in a deadlock over the shutdown crisis.
