BTCDomain is a decentralized domain name system with the suffix “.btc” on the Bitcoin mainnet. In addition, BTCDomain is the first project to realize a completely on-chain website through similar recursive inscription technology. The June 2023 upgrade simplifies and streamlines the domain buying process.
First, BTCDomain completely revamps the process of buying domain names on the blockchain. After the upgrade, users can use Unisat and XVerse two bitcoin wallets to authorize purchases. In addition, BTCDomain still supports MetaMask user login: BTCDomain can use Metamask as a signer, and generate the Taproot address of the Bitcoin mainnet through a series of encryption operations on the EVM address.
After selecting a wallet, users can proceed to purchase a Bitcoin-based domain name. In one transaction, users of BTCDomain can choose multiple domain names to purchase.
Once a BTCDomain customer has selected all their preferred domain names, they can proceed to the “Continue To Cart” menu and complete the details of their new purchase. In this step, the user will add the Bitcoin address to receive the domain name, set the number of years for domain hosting, adjust the inscribe gas fee, and enter the “Ready To Pay” menu.
If the user chooses to pay with Unisat wallet, they will enter the “Continue Pay” menu. Users can then complete the payment within minutes.
In addition, BTCDomain’s customers can directly use Bitcoin (BTC) wallets to purchase domain names and use Bitcoin as a payment method. After authorizing the payment, the user should click on the “I have paid” button. The BTCDomain system will lock the domain name and automate the inscription process.
In addition to Bitcoin (BTC) payments from non-custodial wallets and Unisat, BTCDomain also accepts payments in USDT, ETH and other underlying tokens. These payments are processed through MixPay and include XRP, SOL, BUSD, Eos, and meme coins like SHIB and DOGE.
After the payment is completed, users can click on the wallet address in the upper right corner to check the status and availability of all purchased domain names.
It should be mentioned that in order to enhance the user experience for new and existing users, BTCDomain has improved the user profile design. With the new upgrade, users can see their avatar displayed next to the list of owned domains. Through the new interface, customers can send bitcoins directly to bitcoin-based domains. In the upgraded Oridnals interface, users can seamlessly add and track various inions stored through Bitcoin network functions, including domain names, pictures and other files.
In addition, BTCDomain is the first platform to implement a complete on-chain website through a technology similar to recursive inscriptions. This function has been launched in the last version, and many on-chain website demos have been completed.
How is this function achieved? In simple terms, BTCDomain resolves the Bitcoin address to which the domain name belongs, retrieves all inions associated with the address, and finds a special JSON-formatted link file. Then read the content in the link file, and identify the HTML inion number in it, find the content about this inion in the Bitcoin network, and finally present it through the user’s Web2 website browser. It is worth noting that because the HTML source file has been inscribed on the Bitcoin mainnet as an inion, the website is quite secure and decentralized. See BTCDomain’s Medium article for a full explanation and parsing rationale.
At present, the BTCDomain team has provided several Bitcoin website demos, readers can click on the following links to view:
In the coming months, the BTCDomain team will launch a one-click personal on-chain home page function, aiming to simplify the creation of personal websites.
Andy Tian, co-founder of BTCDomain, said: “The website on the chain will bring new value empowerment to the .btc domain name. We will use a modular and scalable inscription system to allow each domain name holder to deploy at a low threshold and low cost. The personal website that the Bitcoin network will never lose will also allow more users to access the content on the Bitcoin chain through web2.”
BTCDomain, as the head project of the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem, is constantly iteratively updated, and the functions of the website on the Bitcoin chain displayed by it are gratifying. After the appearance of the recursive inscription, BTCDomain’s personal website will be able to achieve a huge leap from a static website to a dynamic website, which is expected to cause a new wave of Bitcoin ecology in the future.
