Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially if you need to change your phone number or banking info. I looked into this because honestly, the process is different depending on which grant you're on.

If you're getting the SRD grant (the R370 one), you can actually do most of this online through their portal - including updating your bank details and phone number. They send you an SMS link to verify everything, so it's pretty secure. But here's the thing: if you're on a permanent grant like disability or old age, you literally have to go to the SASSA office in person. No online option. You need your ID, proof of the new bank account (stamped statement not older than 3 months), and they'll fill out the form for you.

The part that trips people up is the phone number change. If you're on SRD and need to change your number, you go through their contact portal - enter your ID, application ID, new cell number, and they'll send you an OTP to verify. Pretty straightforward once you know where to go. For permanent grants, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office.

One heads up: make sure whatever bank account you're using is 100% in your name. SASSA won't pay into joint or third-party accounts, so don't even try that. And if you're doing this before the 15th of the month, it usually takes effect the next payment cycle. Otherwise, you're waiting another month.
